Boys vs. Girls

Man has been the dominant sex since, well, the dawn of mankind. But for the first time in human history, that is changing—and with shocking speed.

Interesting article from The Atlantic called The End of Men. Be sure to watch the video in which the author and her daughter battle the B v. G debate with her husband and son.

I keep getting the question, “Do you want to have a girl or a boy?” and I can’t honestly say. Girls are better than boys AND boys are better than girls. Besides: Number 1, I don’t get to decide, so what’s the point of wonderin’? (to quote Carousel). B) There are reasons why I prefer a son and reasons I prefer a daughter. Lastly, I truly just want a healthy, happy child, even though everyone hates when I say that.

  1. Vick, I don’t blame you for not stating a preference. I think really wanting a son or really wanting a daughter implies a hope that somehow, having a child of a specific gender will meet some unmet needs the parent has. Your baby — boy or girl — will be lucky to have you both as parents! 🙂

  2. Before I found out I was having a boy, I wanted a girl. Mainly because girl clothes are so cute. Silly, I know, but that was the reason. Now that I have a boy, I don’t know what I was thinking! I want 3 little boys running around. So I think that no matter what you end up having, even if you have a preference for one in the beginning, you will find that your baby is perfect for you. 🙂
